Default What happened to the enthusiasm to finish Trim road rail system?

Well Orleans, forget about the Trim road rail line for promised 2020.

It occurred to me while watching the celebrations of the main trunk system running, that all of a sudden nothing more is said about the progress of the Trim road route. Focus is diverted to Queensway bridges that have already stood for decades, and projects that have an interest in leisure activity could probably safely stand until the Trim route is complete in the promised 2020.

Methinks the bridge repairs over the Queensway should tie Ottawa's
interest in priority for years. Yup, I suspect a diversion or ready cash to other projects. Central Ottawa has their system, and all this ready "rail" cash laying around reserved for unfinished branches of the line, just happens to be coincidental with finding funds for "repairs", or sports stadiums at LeBreton. That is not in Ottawa's collective character. Recall there is never enough money to start a project. You will note no concerns for where the money is coming from is usually the first item of business for Ottawa. Not this time. Why?

What can be done? We have a new leader in our Orleans community whom we placed our trust in. We took her for her word. This issue should make a good first teething project for her.

Unless you can trudge it out daily with all the bus transfers for 5 more years, at least have her lock heads with Ottawa on a daily basis and insist that we have a daily progress release on the Trim road build televised daily.
I want to see the borers, dump trucks and graders working, and to heck with the bridges.

Lets just see if this lady has spunk has she promised.

Montreal Rd @ the Queensway seems to have a lot of activity. There are site trailers and a lot of bulldozed land so I would assume that they are working on the station that will be there.

How much time and money would be wasted providing daily televised updates on the construction project? Five years of daily programs - televised where? Are you suggesting that OC Transpo actually create its own programming for such a request? Imagine hiring film crews, television producers, writers, and editors to televise such mundane information.

And why is this a MP's issue and not the area's City Councillor's? LRT is a city project, developed and lead by the City of Ottawa, not the Federal Gov't. The City of Ottawa is answerable to the citizens of Ottawa for LRT progress, not the MPs of Ottawa.

If you have concerns with what you perceive as lack of progress with he LRT construction - take those concerns to your city councillor, where it belongs.

Your suggestion hold a MP accountable for daily televised updates is beyond unreasonable.

Here's another link that shows the time lines.

"Expanding light rail east from Blair Road could be completed by the fall of 2024, still two years later than originally planned. (City of Ottawa)"

No more than was "wasted" on televising the central route build. That's all we saw for years. But I'm curious that you find the hardworking Orleans community as unworthy of knowing how and where their tax dollars are being spent as regards to the upgrading their system. The fact is, that the system is NOT finished, and especially not finished enough to start diverting funds elsewhere which will cause delays for Orleans transit.

She is our representative on all matters that affect the well being of her riding. It is the PEOPLE in a democracy that decide what is important to them. Besides, for a first task, she is not being asked much. Orleans would be asking her only to pick up a telephone on occasion and move toward having the media show us the build.

In fact, where I used to live, many of our friends could count on Don Boudria to act as rep after he got elected to the House. He was very welcoming and eager to listen to citizen's needs. He had a gift of foresight and was able to see how his success would affect the positive broader need of the community. He was a knight for the small guy, and it is unfortunate he wasn't elected Prime Minister.

No one is suggesting that she would succeed, but only to do with zeal what was promised. But what is impossible in Canada? I elect people that see the impossible as just another barrier to surmount.

The "east" extension included Blair and Trim, but the below says.........

East Extension June through December 2019
June 28, 2019

...... NOT 2025 as the current schedule is changed to now.

Regardless, it is in poor taste to make huge expenditures in central Ottawa while 1/3 of Ottawa is in dire need of transit help. The added punch of an MP is definitely required now while in the preliminary stage.

That was primarily covered by local news media who incidentally, covered the costs. That is not what you originally requested.

These are your words, not mine. I was simply suggesting that you obtain these updates from the property source - your local councillor. Sign up for his newsletter and you will be informed. Sign up for updates from OC Transpo itself.

The east and west extensions are being built at the same time, and money spent on the west extension does not equate to delays on the east extension.

She is not our representative on all matters affecting the citizens of her riding. Her span of control only extends to those matter under Federal jurisdiction. You may wish to avail yourself of our system of government.

Don Boudria is from another time, another era and your opinion of his time in office is no indication of his actual performance during that time.

You are asking her to succeed in an area that is outside of her span of control - in other words, you are actually asking that she fail, as she cannot succeed in something that she has no influence.
