Default Surge protector OR arrest

What is the difference between surge protector and surge arrester? aka surge trap? I want to get it install next to my 200 amp load center. What i noticed is that price is almost same. Protector is lot more bigger than arrester. Looks like protector needs a qualified electrician to install whereas arrestor is pretty much plug and play.

Can anyone shed light on this? what shall I get/do? I want to protect my electrical devices.

You still need protection local to the equipment.

Do not rely upon something sitting at your electrical panel to properly protect electronics.
