Default In Ground Sprinkler

Has anyone added an in-ground sprinkler to their lot? I've contacted a few companies and they've quoted $5000 +!! That's really quite high, has anyone found it for less?

I've done my own for just a few hundred dollars in supplies. Its a fairly easy DIY project. Just need to plan a little beforehand.

If you do plan to go this route (DIY), ping me and I can give you a few tips from my experiences installing mine and a friend's system.

Lee Valley sells a low-profile pop-up sprinkler head that they claim you can mow right over. You'd still need to connect a regular garden hose, but the sprinkler could at least be semi-permanently mounted. Much cheaper than an inground system, too.

In case anyone's interested I have obtained a few quotes from various companies. The sprinkler for my 50 X 50 backyard plus front yard and sides of home is about $2800.00 If you want to know what companies I went through just PM me as I am still getting quotes. There is also a $150/year maintenance cost to be aware of.

Default List of companies in Ottawa

Here's the list of companies I received quotes from:

National Capital Irrigation Systems, Nutri-lawn, David Lepine's Certified Irrigation Technicians, Yates Customer Lawn Sprinklers, Expert Irrigation Ottawa, Waterworks Irrgation Systems, Moodies Lawn Sprinklers, and Greenscape.

Hope that list helps people in locating companies in Ottawa.

I agree with Joseph, If you can DIY then go for it, I'am in the process of building my fence. I already knew there was no serious rock so why pay someone triple the price.

I'm looking at doing this DIY as well after receiving a quote of $7500 from Greenscape. Where are you guys getting the materials from? After going around to alot of the hardware stores in Ottawa, the only place that has a decent selection is the Rona on Hunt Club & Merivale. They carry the parts from Orbit. The materials alone will cost me about $600-$800.

The hardest part looks like it's going to be the planning process. Rainbird provides a free service where you send them your site plans and they do the designwork for you. Too bad I haven't seen any local or online retailer that carry their products.

I got my stuff from Home Depot - it was the Orbit stuff too. But that was many years ago

They also had a booklet to help you plan your sprinkler system. You should ask if they have some still. It was free.

I'll send you a PM

I know this is an old thread but has anyone done a DIY sprinkler install recently? I just finished my fence and now want to install the sprinklers (even though we cant use them!!) now. I know Home Depot has supplies but if any one has any experience, pointers or suggestions on doing this I would love to hear them!
