Humidifer install recommendations

We just moved into a home and are looking for recommendations for a reputable company that will install a humidifier in Ottawa.

Recommendations for companies, and or specific units to ask for would be very much appreciated, as would a ballpark price for the supply/install.

My advice: figure out what the specs of your home and furnace are before calling anyone. Things like: sq ft of living space, ceiling height, if you intend on finishing basement, if you have an HRV/best exchanger currently, type and size of furnace etc....

Yep - have all that info already, and I've installed them myself before.
This time around, I just want to have someone else do it for me.

Am looking for recommendations of companies that do it - better yet, smaller outfits that have provided exceptional pre- and post-care service.

Does anyone recommend a unit that actually works? We had one installed in our last home that made very little difference. In my research it seems that very few units actually produce desired results. Those that did tended to have poor results after the first season.

If your looking the best result, go with a steam unit.

I think a lot of 'failure' occurs because with tighter houses, furnaces run less and therefore the humidifier does not have time to keep up.

I have a thermostat controlled flow through humidifier, pad is replaced every year, and fan runs constantly at a very low speed.

No problem keeping the house at the 35% we set it at.

A steam unit works like a kettle. So operating costs are high. With that one I believe constant fan operation is also required.

Is your thermostat installed in the living area or in the basement. In our previous home the thermostat was installed next to the unit and I remember the home inspector telling me that the location was not ideal.

Yes in the middle of the house on main level.

A humidistat next to or even in the furnace duct should still work fine for you.
