I've got to finish the closet fast. I'm starting the patio this weekend and the Bobcat is coming Sat. I took on too much at once. lol

Designing and building it yourself is definitely a lot less expensive than buying a custom closet or a closet organizer systems from the big box store. I estimate I'm spending between $80-$100 to build the one side I'm working on now.

Finished one side of the closet minus the baseboard.

Material cost for one side was $139.00. The other side will be more since I plan on installing drawers.

I'm debating whether to install baseboard and leave it open to the floor or install a kick plate as I did in the center below the shelves. What do you think?

Can you give us some details on the materials used and where you sourced them? Is it laminate mdf sheets cut to size?

Table my husband built over the winter.

Ended up selling it and we're building another one now. Will also be making a bench to match

The 4 vertical gables are 5/8" melamine panels each originally 16" x 96" but had them ripped to 14" at the store. At home I cut them down to 84".

For the shelving use the same - two 16" ripped to 13 5/8" and cut to the width you desire. Mine is 24" wide.

The top shelf is the builders original closet shelf just moved up to 84". Only 12" deep which is the reason is shorter than the gables.

Strapping attached to the walls is MDF. Buy a sheet of MDF and have it ripped into strips for strapping/shelf support.

Bought the melamine at Home hardware - $10.45 each. Home Depot has them as well but the quality of the finish has gone down.

Rods purchased at home hardware but also avail in most big box stores.
