Default What to do on subfloor before replacing carpet?

Hello all,

We are thinking of ripping up the carpet on our second floor and replacing with hardwood. My question is this: once the carpet is off, is there something you would recommend doing to the subfloor to reinforce it (before the contractors come in to place hardwood)? I remember reading a thread here where owners have added additional nails to the subfloor. If so, please recommend in detail what to do (type of nail, nail gun, where to nail, any pictures, etc.). Thanks a lot!
