Default HVAC - Relocate Air Conditioner

To any HVAC Techs, wondering what the going rate is to have an AC relocated? Ball park? And how long it should take? I was just quoted a ridiculous amount and was told at least 5 hours work. The unit is currently on the side of my home and I want to put it at the back where it was originally.. literally 2-3 ft around the corner from it's current location. Builder moved it to the side in order to install a deck but find it too noisy there.

Couldn't tell you a price, but moving an AC is not a small job. The system will need to be drained of refrigerant, the copper lines will need moving or redoing depending on existing length / access and the connections will need to be re-brazed, and then the system gets refilled, typically with new refrigerant (which isn't cheap, plus the cost of disposal for the old stuff). Then there is the actual moving of the unit, they may need a new electrical wire if the existing is too short. This all needs to be done by licensed trades, who definitely aren't woking for peanuts. You're going to be paying the labour for a full install, plus the costs of disconnecting the unit and disposal of the old refrigerant.

$700 to $1000 sounds about right.

That's based on the $600 price a friend paid to move his about 6 years ago.
