Default Energy Star ?

I'm thinking of getting the Energy Star upgrade and I wonder if it's work getting it. Do you really save money on energy cost or is just bla bla bla. Is there any governmnet tax break you get for that or not? Are there official standards like the R they have to use, what king of windows etc ?

I would really apreciate any input on this.
