No question, a $900 bill is way beyond the norm...something definitely crazy there...leaks? Meter?

My bills in the old subdivision averaged $90 or so (on septic). Pre-sod, in New subdivision (2-person household), we're around $225. Still concerning because significant increases are going to keep being implemented.

Definitely interested in the petition and I know a couple of neighbours are as well. York Region needs to hear this as well...they are driving much of the increase.

E.G.'s water/sewer rates are the highest of similar surrounding towns. I ran the following water/sewer cost comparisons, based on annual consumption of 160 cubic metres of water:

East Gwillimbury $1,235
Newmarket 1,133
King Township 1,080
Georgina 936
Bradford 869

E.G.'s variable water rate has increased 16.3% over the past 5 years. The wastewater rate has increased 29.6%. The fixed delivery charge has increased 71%.

The Town will tell you that we are a dispersed municipality, with 4 separate hamlets, which impacts the efficiency (cost) of the system; they are building a proper reserve for maintenance/replacement of infrastructure; that, possibly other towns are partially subsidizing their water/sewer rates via property taxes....etc, etc. Whatever the reason, the pain is real.

Hey 'bbq', I would be willing to join/sign the petition if someone organizes one.
As for your neighbour with the crazy bill, I suggest them getting the town to inspect the meter, maybe something is wrong?

Instead of looking at the bill itself (comparing $ to $), try comparing cubic-meter used vs cubic-meter used.

My meter was installed incorrectly during the first 2 months when I moved in, then they fixed it. (That was last Fall).

pls include me as well for the petition, sewer delivery charge and water sewage both adds up to about $130 alone, even if you don't use water.
