Default finishing basement

We will be finishing our basement shortly after moving in.
Can anyone suggest a good contractor here in Ottawa that would be efficient and affordable?
Also, someone who might help with the design of it.

Thanks

Hi,
I had Torsten of Axis Contracting (not 100% sure on the company name) change my 4 bedroom house into a three bedroom with a walk-in closet and ensuite bathroom. He did a great job and had some great ideas about the design and colours.
His phone number is 613-797-9867 (hopefully it hasn't changed over the past 2 years)

How much did he charge to do that KimZi?

We are also finishing our basement right away after closing. After getting a few crazy quotes what we've decided to do is hire the trades separately. We'll do the framing, Dh's uncle will do the duct work, I'll hire an electrician, plumber and drywaller to do the rest. Carpet we'll have installed too.

We finished a basement bathroom in our current home this way and it saved us A LOT of money.

My boss hired JustBasements and the finished product is stunning. She said they were amazing to deal with and did all of the design aspect of it.

I saw one of their vans drive by once and wondered about them. We will be starting to finish our basement in the spring. Has anyone else used these guys and have pictures of a finished product, were their prices reasonable ??

Norm Deslandes @ Aspen Construction

Top notch work and reasonably priced. He did ours and our neighbours and we are very happy.

We're in the process of finishing the basement ourselves using the services of different trades. Almost done! It will have taken us exactly 30 days to do from start to finish.

My husband drew up the plan, got it approved by the city and we've passed all our inspections so far (on the first try...so proud of that). My husband and his uncle did the framing (couldn't find someone to do that part). We hired an electrician, plumber, boarder, mud and tape guy. Ottawa Valley Handrail to supply and install the same railing we have upstairs, Westboro flooring to do the carpet and tile and a guy to do the trim and doors. We've ordered cabinets from Ikea for the mini-bar (haven't found a vanity yet . Granite top for the mini bar is coming from Ottawa Granite Pro. Plumbing fixtures all from my husband's dad.

All in we spent 8K less than the basics basement the builder quoted. (Builder's quote didn't include a bathroom, potlights, wiring for a projector and surround sound, a mini bar with granite top and really cool plumbing fixtures, upgraded handrail and spindles, upgraded carpet and tile.

We're pretty proud of how quickly we managed to get everything done. Didn't honestly think we could get it done this fast I bet you could do it too!

Sounds great!
How large is your basement space? Did you do any type of sound proofing treatment? What type of home theatre area are you doing? I'm in the planning stages and wanted to see what others are doing.
Thanks!

We have 750 sqft. We just put resilient channel to hang the ceiling drywall (apparently it helps). We didn't insulate because of the pot-lights.

We're also thinking of installing these black sound tiles from sig av for noise dampening. We're putting in a projector with 92 inch screen. We'll eventually get 6 theatre chairs but at $1200 a piece it's going to be a while before we get those
