Default Half Moon Bay Community Association - HMBCA

Just passing on an email i received:

Half Moon Bay Community Association - HMBCA:
My name is Jenna Swinwood. As many community members know already, I'm looking to bring our community together and start a community association this fall. I would like to invite anyone interested to attend our first meeting on Sept. 15th at 6:30 pm. We will be meeting at the Walter Baker Centre in the Library Board Room.

This meeting will be very informal and for general information at this point. Please bring your questions and ideas.

HMBCA will also be involved with Jan Harder's office in putting on and event this Halloween. Please let me know at the meeting if you have some time to volunteer for this as well. More details to come.

Another topic that will be discussed is a Neighbourhood Watch Program for Half Moon Bay (thank you to Angelo to putting together this information). The program combats crime in the most effective way - before it starts - by reducing the opportunities for crime to occur. Neighbourhood Watch is a program to help neighbours watch out for neighbours. Its purpose is to get citizens involved in discouraging and preventing crime at the local level.

The program thrives on mutual aid. Your neighbours know who you are, what type of car you drive, and may be the first to notice a suspicious person at your door or window. A police officer patrolling your community may not recognize a stranger in your yard - but your neighbour will.

The ultimate success of Neighborhood Watch depends largely on a commitment to cooperate between area residents and the police - and, more importantly, between residents themselves. By simply getting to know the neighbours around them, local residents are well positioned to recognize someone or something that is suspicious.

A 50% participation/registration in our community will allow us to have "Neighbourhood Watch" signs posted to reinforce to everyone that this is a Neighbourhood Watch Community. By registering you will also receive the newsletter with our local area crime reports from the Ottawa Police Services.

Neighbourhood Watch does not

- require you to be available for children and seniors to come to your door when lost or frightened.
- perform any special tasks.
- patrol the neighbourhood.
- know your neighbours business other than be aware of who belongs and who doesn't.

For more information you can visit HMBCA.ca, our new community website (thank you again Angelo) or contact Jenna Swinwood by email at jenna@swinwood.com or phone 613.323.1222.
