Default How many plumbing vents does a house need?

Is there a required ratio between the number of sanitary fixtures (e.g. toilet and sink) and the number of plumbing vents through the roof?

Today, I noticed only one vent through the roof. House will have a total of 4 sets of toilet, tub, sink; +toilet, sink (powder room); +2 sinks in the kitchen; +tub and washer in the laundry; +extra shower in ensuite. Total of about 19 sanitary fixtures.

Is one roof vent allowed by Ontario building code and is this good plumbing practice?

I'll continue to read through the OBC and on the Net.

Thanks.

I'm sure that would depend on a lot of things.. like how many of what you have and where. If your bathrooms are stacked then a single stack may run to the roof. Plumbing does get inspected and it's real easy for the inspectors to look at too.

this is very normal - all the vent pipes will connect together with 1 four inch out through the roof

are you having drain problems?
