We recently ran into a couple, at the model homes, that also purchased a Laketon and we discussed some of the design options that we had selected. In our discussion we found out that this couple was told, by their design consultant, that the area at the top of the stairs (in the model home this is the area that contained the built-in cabinet and led to the great room and laundry room) qualified as a stair landing. The implication is that if you purchase wood stairs (oak or maple) that this "landing" would also be finished with wood strip flooring.
Of course we were somewhat shocked to find that out because it wasn't consistent with what is in place in the model home or with what our design consultant told us in an e-mail addressing our question about the topic. Unfortunately, this is the one major qualm that I have with Mattamy. You can ask three different people the same question and get 5 different answers (two weeks later all three people will provide new answers again).
So, does anyone have a Laketon/Raven that is built with the wood staircase upgrade? and if you do, how did they finish the “landing” at the top of your stairs (assuming you didn't do hardwood throughout)? We were also wondering about the stair or two that takes you from this "landing" to the final upper floor. Are those stairs also wood or are they carpeted?
This isn't a huge issue for us. However, if they do finish it with wood we would like to take that into consideration when we go shopping for the rest of the hardwood floors that we will likely install shortly after closing.
