Default Mattamy modern fireplace questions

Has anyone opted for the modern fireplace options for Mattamy?

I was wondering what the accent trim around the modern fireplace that they mention in the design booklet is?

The raised faireplace is $100 more, is it because it the fashion?

They also offer wall mount thermostat for $140. What is the standard control one gets?

Does anyone know what brand the fireplaces are; so that one can look them up on the Internet to find pics etc.

Thanks.

I purchased the modern fireplace...the accent trim is the black tile around the fireplace that you see with any standard mantle. I opted to remove the hearth (tile on the floor) though -- my entire main floor, including kitchen, is hardwood.

The charge to raise the fireplace is because your are changing the standard plans, I think anyways. I asked to lower the mantle (so the TV isn't too high up) and Erin said there would be a charge. I didn't purchase it but will ask again at the pre-con meeting. If not, no big deal...everyone says it will be fine. To raise the fireplace is a personal preference (not sure if it's the fashion). I did not opt for it because I'll be mounting a TV over it.

I asked Erin if anyone else has purchased the modern mantle and she couldn't think of anyone...so I might have been the first. I'll post pics when it's done.

The standard control is a wall switch (on/off - no adjusting).

I am thinking that they are vermont castings fireplaces as they offer trim kits made by vermont castings, but I guess it is possible that the trim kits work with other fireplace brands too.

Default Thanks for the reply

Does not look like too many folks were opting for the modern fireplace. But I think if the do it right it could look cool. Look forward to pics.

I know this isn't a modern fireplace, but this is what we chose. It is the Louis IVX fireplace. I like mixing contemporary & old in my home.

I hope this works... I have never attached anything before.

Here is a picture of the modern fireplace...the hearth was removed by request. I'll post another pic when the TV is mounted.

FYI: Dont spend the 140$ for a thermostat. If they include a wall switch you can replace the switch for a thermostat after the fact. But be aware you are looking for a 500-750mv thermostat not a 24v thermostat that controls your furnace. There is a difference as a fireplace uses a pilot generator to creat the millivoltage. You should be able to get these stats for way less then 140$

OF course if they are not including a wall switch and just using the inlcuded toggle switch on the fireplace its self, then the 140$ will be the way to go as they will run the nessasary 2-wire to the thermostat. Its can be a DIY but running wire is not always that easy after the fact.

Thanks for posting this. Is that mantle curved slightly? I'm pretty sure it is, but I just wanted to be sure.

By the way, do you have a choice in the direction of how your hardwood is laid or do they lay it the way they want to lay it?
