Barrheaven is not even an option for us. We chose Kanata/Fairwinds because we fell in love with the area.

We currently own a house here in NB, but will be selling most likely for Aug 2010. We are in a Military community and have to go with the posting season to sell our house. After we sell... will be stock somewhere in Ottawa, with no house and 3 kids. And no house for us, also means no work for me... (makes it very difficult for my business)

I'm with you on that - if there is another meeting, I think we should all get our ducks in a row, be prepared and have all our questions ready!!

We are in the same situation - bought in June 08, put our house up for sale Aug 08, that same week got our first delay letter, took the house off the market lol, and we're still here.
I'd move to Barrhaven if it means I get a house that has appreciated big time in value. The traffic sucks, yes, but I can't imagine it being any worse than Sens night traffic - and my hubby and I don't work during rush hour times, so it doesn't really affect us. As for the planes overhead, I guess everyone has their opinions, but I currently live in Riverside South next to the airport and we've maybe heard a handful of planes in the 4 years we've lived here - so I'm not concerned with Barrhaven for that.
I think at this point, I'd rather them start making progress on SOME house and then flip it to live in Kanata one day. I grew up in Kanata my whole life, my family still lives there and my son's new daycare provider is there and wonderful - I really don't want to start over, but I hate the uncertainty.

My cousin (who purchased in Fairwinds North, and has been delayed - who didn't even get her delay letter - she found out from me, on here), made a good point. Instead of moving in Oct 09 like we were supposed to, we have lost out on this year's Home Renovation Tax Credit, and we are stuck with the Harmonized Tax. Nice

Riverside South is not under the main flight way, and only used occasionally, that's why people there won't get a lot of noise and potential danger... But Barrhaven is just under the main flight ways. Once I was in my flight back to Ottawa, and when I looked down on those houses, it's so close below... And that's it, I won't move to there.

For the upgrade tax, as we are doing the design center appointments now, I think they will hold the price for us, which is tax included already. For we resigned buyers, they will use the 2008 price. For new buyers, they will use current price.

I understand - to each their own. I'd rather them give me a house in Barrhaven that's appreciating like crazy, then for them to give me my $25K back and tell me to walk away. Our $25K isn't worth the same amount as when we gave it to them, and with the increasing house prices, we'd have to seriously downsize with another builder for the same price (likely a 2000sq ft house instead of the 2500sq ft house from Mattamy).
For the tax credit, (I was referring to my very original closing date). I meant moving in there, and doing my hardwood and tiles after closing - doesn't it have to be done, if by a third party, but Feb 1, 2010?
Regardless, my point is, is that Mattamy has already cost me ENOUGH money. Its hard to just walk away, if we were give that option.

Angry update - FURIOUS!!!

So I called my CSR, and we're NOT happy!
She confirmed that I was getting a letter (by my lot number), and that I'd have three options:
1. Release
2. Release and re-sign at HMB with TODAY'S pricing and a $10K upgrade voucher NOT COOL!
3. Release and re-sign in FW with no determined closing date.

I was pissed - I asked about last year's deal for the original Phase 5 homeowners to move to HMB at the old pricing; she said prices have gone up so much that is not longer an offer on the table.
I told her to suggest a meeting again, and she said she'd mention it, but not sure that they'd do one. Shocking.

Sorry to be th bearer of bad news - call your CSR to get your details!!!

Wow, I'm furious! So here's a question, why do we have to resign? Isn't that what Tarion's warrenty for? Sounds to me like they are trying to get around Tarion. I'm certainly not going to resign without a closing date. I didn't know that was even legal???? Guess it's a question for our lawyer...

I suspect that they wish to use this way to force all buyers out of phase 5, and then they could resale the lots by increasing the price so that they could get more money from that area. We all know that the price has gone up for nearly 50k for some models. Last year they give people 5k resign bonus. By this way, they could not only save the lost because of the delay, but make some fortune through it.

I don't think it's legal to sign a contract without a closing date. But I am not a lawyer, so I am not sure about this. In my mind this is just a basic logic. But since we signed contract with Mattamy, it seems that the logic doesn't work here anymore. Who knows what Mattamy's logic is!

Sorry - I should have specified. I don't think they can make us re-sign without a closing date. Just at this time, she couldn't determine when they would be.
I think they are trying to oust us out. They will lose money if they build our houses for us (original buyers, that is).
I'd love to have confirmation from the city that Phase 5 will even exist one day... That would make my decision easier.
