Please note: These steps are just based on my observations of houses in our neighbourhood being built. This is by no means a complete list and yours may differ.
1. Dirt moved and hole dug
2. Forms for footings put in place
3. Concrete for footings poured
4. Sewage PVC(?) put in place for drainage
5. Gravel put in around footings
6. Forms put in place for foundation
7. Concrete poured for foundation
8. Wait at a few days for concrete to set
9. Forms removed and plastic foundation wrap is tacked on around the outside
10. Flexible, corrogated pipe is put in place around outside of foundation for drainage and covered in Gravel.
11. Dirt is filled in around the foundation
12. Steel i-beams are put in place across foundation
13. The carpenters appear and build your first/second floors in a mad dash. Usually takes about 7 to 10 days of actual construction, and I have seen them do some in about 4 or 5 days. Depends on the number of workers and the weather.
14. The roof trusses are put in place
15. The plywood sheets for the roof are put in place
16. Roofers place the shingle. Usually takes a few days, depending on the weather.
17. Windows and doors
18. Duct work starts
19. Plumbing starts
20. Electrical starts
21. Brickwork starts
22. Siding starts when brick is done
23. In-house (the guys who do the phone and data cabling)
24. Drywall
25. Countertops
26. Cabinets
27. Interior Paint (be careful! the painters painted over our light switches)
28. Carpet
29. Exterior paint and details. This may take a while depending on the season.
30. Foundation plaster/sealer. Not sure what it's called, but basicly they put a layer of mortar on the concrete foundation between the ground and the brick.
31. Driveway. This will be a long time. You want the driveway to settle as much as possible before they ashphalt it.
