Some builders will offer a scheduled appointment for you and them to walk through the house during specific stages of completion and allow you to both inspect the progress to date.

This is an excellent opportunity for both of you to determine if the layout and structural upgrades are to plan and point out any other issues that may be immediately apparent.

This saves some potential headaches on both parties so that these issues can be documented and fixed while it's still easy to do so.
