Gas suppliers

Fixed Rate Natual Gas Suppliers, had them knock on your door yet trying to sell you?
They will usually start off the conversation with: "I'm from the gas company and I just want to check your bill to make sure you are signed up for the discount rate."
There's the first problem.. Why would someone from 'the gas company' want to see a copy of your bill to see if you are signed up for something? Wouldn't they know that already?
If they ask to see your bill, DO NOT SHOW THEM.
There have been many unscrupulous individiuals who will look at your bill, copy down the number and then sign you up automatically. DO NOT SHOW THEM YOUR BILL.
Here is how it basically works, if you sign up for say 5 years, for the first 1-3 years you will be paying more or the same rate as everyone else, for the last 3-5 you will probably be paying less. So the question is, will you in the long run make up the money you overpaid in the beginning? That is where the gamble comes in. They make their money upfront (in the first couple years), and leverage this to offset the discount they offer you the latter years.
"It’s all very complicated but the one thing that I look at is the company that wanted us to sign us, 7 years ago, was Direct Energy, anyone that remembers they bought all the gas rights from Enbridge in 2002. So they offer you a discounted rate, and still make enough money to buy out the gas company, seemed a bit odd. For the record we did not sign up, nor will we, but it realy is up to each person as to if they want to. I have heard peopel are pleased with this type of service, but I would do some reseach before signing up to anyone. We do have equal billing though, and I do recommend that."
Do some research. Ask them to leave some information and then get lost, as this will not be the last person you see from that company. Beware of hidden costs, even a percentage or two can make a big difference.
Did I mention DO NOT SHOW THEM YOUR BILL?
